Movies at Detroit Mercy with trunk-or-treat on Oct. 19

Detroit Mercy is offering an evening of Halloween treats and a drive-in movie for our Detroit neighborhoods, particularly those around our McNichols Campus, on Saturday, Oct. 19.
The main event begins at 7:15 p.m. with a drive-in movie showing Inside Out 2 on a 40-foot outdoor movie screen with the capability of sound playing from your car radio. Before the movie begins, kids can wear their Halloween costumes and have fun at a trunk-or-treat from 4:30 to 6 p.m. If you are coming to the movie only, please arrive by 6:30 p.m.
Food trucks will also be available to all guests as well as a mini golf course offered by Midnight Golf and Detroit Mercy architecture students. On display will be a few original pieces of outdoor furniture designed and built by our architecture students as well as an exhibition of their architecture projects and artwork.
麻豆传媒社区 hopes this will become a new tradition for our neighbors and University community to come together and have some fun at Halloween.

Detroit Mercy Theatre Company presents 鈥榃ITCH,鈥� Oct. 25-27 and Nov. 1-3

Detroit Mercy Theatre Company‘s first production of the school year is WITCH, performed across two weekends, Oct. 25-27 and Nov. 1-3 at the Marlene Boll Theatre in downtown Detroit. Shows on Fridays and Saturdays are at 7:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sundays.Prepare to be spellbound by this sharp and subversive fable, where the boundaries between good and evil blur. In the quaint village of Edmonton, a mysterious figure with devilish charm appears offering to fulfill the deepest desires of its inhabitants. Elizabeth, a woman ostracized by the village and labeled a “witch,” should prove an easy target, but what unfolds is a captivating dance igniting unexpected passions and forging unlikely alliances.
In this modern twist on a class Jacobean drama, witness the transformation of a community grappling with the value of their souls in times of adversity. The show by Jen Silverman is being directed by Krista Schafer.

Supreme Court Associate Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to speak on McNichols Campus, Oct. 22

Detroit Mercy’s chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) welcomes United States Supreme Court Associate Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the McNichols Campus on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. for an interactive live talk.
The event will take place in the Student Union Ballroom and is free and open to all Detroit Mercy students and employees.
Jackson is known for her sharp intellect, unwavering commitment to justice and historic role as the first Black woman to serve on the highest court in the United States. In this session, she will delve into the principles of leadership, fairness and the responsibilities that come with holding one of the most significant roles in the judiciary.
In NSLS Speaker Broadcasts sessions, influential, prominent figures are invited to share their personal stories of leadership and success with our community. Students get the rare opportunity to ask guests questions 鈥� both in person and virtually 鈥� by submitting them in advance. Guest speakers are thoughtfully selected from among the most respected in their fields, including business, media, entertainment, publishing, sports, politics, health, technology and more.

Nick Rombes to lead Oct. 21 Creative Writing Collective

Detroit Mercy students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends are invited to join 麻豆传媒社区’s Creative Writing Collective! The first gathering is set for Monday, Oct. 21听蹿谤辞尘 5:30-6:45 p.m. inside of the Briggs Building, Room 302.No writing experience is necessary to join the Creative Writing Collective! You are welcome if you have an interest in exploring or developing your creative inclinations.
The second meeting this semester will be led by Professor of English Nick Rombes is titled, “Musicality and the Ballad form in Writing.”

Titan Equity Nourish Network (TENN)
TENN is a student-led and community-driven food justice program that delivers fresh produce to 60 families in New Martin Park Neighborhood and 80 seniors at Theresa Maxis Senior Apartments.
Center for Social Entrepreneurship
The Center provides business expertise and acumen as well as mentors to assist local entrepreneurs, beginning with the “Boost” workshop that aids entrepreneurs in developing business plans to achieve a greater social impact.
Counseling Clinic
The clinic provides no-cost counseling services to Detroit residents who otherwise may not have access to mental health services.
Dental Center
Detroit Mercy Dental offers dental services and education through two clinics, nine outreach clinics, a mobile dental clinic and a school-based dental sealant program.
Detroit Collaborative Design Center
The design center provides design services to non-profit community and civic organizations to engage communities and enhance neighborhoods.
Detroit Mercy Eye Institute
The Detroit Mercy Eye Institute includes the state-of-the-art equipment and technology needed to diagnose, monitor, and treat numerous eye conditions. The clinic will also provide affordable eyecare to the uninsured and vulnerable populations.
Law Clinics
Detroit Mercy Law provides legal assistance to Detroit area residents through six clinics: Immigration Law Clinic, SADO Criminal Appellate Clinic, Criminal Trial Clinic, Veterans Law Clinic, Juvenile Law Appellate Clinic and Intellectual Property Law Clinic.
Live6 Alliance
University of Detroit Mercy helped to launch the Live6 Alliance in August 2015 to strengthen the Livernois Avenue and McNichols Road commercial corridor in northwest Detroit.
Pre-College Programs
Detroit area students in grades 4-12 participate in more than 15 outreach programs annually through Saturday classes, summer camps, and innovative curricula in the sciences, technology engineering, mathematics, architecture and design.

Migration Research Directory
The is an open-access resource for high-quality research on migration, provided by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. Faculty members from Jesuit universities around the world provide important migration and refugee research from a wide variety of perspectives.
Psychology Clinic
The Psychology Clinic provides assessment and counseling services for approximately 300 clients annually. Fees are based on ability to pay.
Reimagining the Civic Commons
University of Detroit Mercy serves as one of the institutional anchors for the “Reimaging the Civic Commons” initiative, which is funded through the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation grant. The initiative focuses on the City of Detroit’s neighborhood revitalization priority: the Livernois/McNichols area. The project’s goal is to revitalize the neighborhoods between its two anchor institutions, Detroit Mercy and Marygrove College, creating a denser and more diverse urban community.
Rx for Reading Program
This program increases access to children’s books and supports families in reading to their children. The program has distributed more than 2,000 children’s books a month at a variety of locations, including low-income health, dental and WIC clinics; homeless shelters; and Head Start programs.
